About the hike
Kiellandbu is a tiny unstaffed DNT cabin owned by Bergen og Hordaland Turlag — four bunks, unlocked, open year-round. The little cabin sits on an exposed ridge with a 360° panorama, and has become one of Norway's most-visited mountain huts for that exact view. You don't need to stay overnight to do the hike — most people walk it as a day trip.
Getting there
Drive from Voss towards Bergen on E16, turn off into Bergsdalen and follow road 314 to Hodnaberg. Parking is at the end of the road (paid). The trail is T-marked and crosses a small lake on a suspension bridge before climbing steadily to the cabin. You return the same way.
Want to stay overnight?
Bunks must be booked in advance at hyttebestilling.dnt.no — there are only four and no drop-ins. If it's full, Bergen og Hordaland Turlag has other open cabins nearby (Brydalsseter, Vatnane, BT-hytten). Self-service rules apply.
Our tips
Start early — especially on July and August weekends there can be a queue for the photo. Pack a windbreaker even on sunny days; the ridge is exposed. Our cabin in Tråstølen is about a 45-minute drive from the Hodnaberg trailhead.
