1. Ride the Voss Gondola to Hangurstoppen
Northern Europe's largest and most modern gondola takes you from the train station in Voss centre up to Hangurstoppen (808 m) in about 10 minutes. At the top you'll find Hangurstoppen Restaurant with panoramic views and service all year round.
2. Try rafting on Strandaelva and the Voss river system
Voss is Norway's extreme sports capital, and rafting is one of the most popular summer activities. Several operators offer trips in different difficulty levels — from family-friendly stretches to more adrenaline-packed runs on Strandaelva.
3. Hike in the mountains — from Hanguren Panorama to longer summits
Several marked trails start from Hangurstoppen. Hanguren Panorama is a short, easy and family-friendly loop with fantastic views. For longer trips there are plenty of summit hikes and marked paths in the mountains around Voss, for both beginners and experienced hikers.
4. Cycling for all levels
Cycling on Hangurstoppen is a low-threshold family option right by the gondola, with prepared routes. More experienced riders can tackle classic rides like Rallarvegen and several mountain bike trails in the area.
5. Swim in Vangsvatnet or Valbergstjørni
Vangsvatnet in the town centre is perfect for swimming, paddleboarding and relaxing by the water on warm days. For a fresh mountain experience, hike up to Valbergstjørni — a clear mountain lake with stunning views.
6. Experience Ekstremsportveko
The world's largest extreme sports festival is held in Voss every summer and attracts athletes from all over the world — a full week of competitions, concerts and festival atmosphere.
7. Paragliding, skydiving and the wind tunnel
Voss has one of Norway's finest paraglider launch sites, an indoor wind tunnel in the town centre and several operators offering tandem skydiving and tandem paragliding. Adrenaline for every level — no experience required.
8. Hangurshusko swing and Instaspots
The famous Hangurshusko swing gives you a free, memorable ride high above Voss, and several Instaspots on Hangurstoppen are perfect for both your camera and a coffee break.
9. Kayaking, paddling and local food
Explore the fjords and lakes around Voss by kayak or canoe, and taste short-traveled produce from local farms and restaurants — a calm and nature-close side of Voss.
10. Climb and zip in the treetops — Voss Climbing & Zipline Park
Voss Climbing & Zipline Park (run by Voss Active in Skulestadmo, about 10 minutes from Voss centre) is a large high-ropes park with 60+ elements across micro, small and large courses. Ziplines, rope bridges and cable rides between the trees — for both kids and adults. Open weekends from May and daily from 24 June to the end of August. Allow 2–3 hours.
11. Vossabadet — modern indoor swimming hall in the centre
Vossabadet is a modern swimming complex in the heart of Voss, with a 25-metre training pool, diving tower (1, 3 and 5 m), children's pool, water slides and saunas. A great rainy-day option and ideal for families who want a calm couple of hours between mountain trips.
12. Voss Golf Club — 9-hole course by Lønavatnet
Voss Golf Club offers a 9-hole course beautifully laid out by Lake Lønavatnet, framed by Lønahorgi (1,410 m). The course opened in 2005 and was designed by Jeremy Turner. The clubhouse has a café, golf simulator and practice area with driving range, putting green and chipping green. Open to both members and visitors.
13. Day trip to Nærøyfjord, Flåm and the Hardangerfjord
